The Larimer County Department of Health and Environment (LCDHE) is in search of a full-time Lead Environmental Health Specialist!
This Environmental Health Specialist position will primarily coordinate and perform public health activities for our Air Quality Program. This includes conducting inspections and investigations of businesses, private properties and other environmental situations to ensure compliance with local and state regulations related to air quality, indoor air quality, and public health nuisances. This position will also support the Environmental Health Planner in land use development and regional planning, and assist with our Zoonoses program as needed.

Responsibilities
Specifically, this position:
- Inspects stationary sources of pollutants and investigates complaints of pollutants to ensure compliance with the Air Quality Control Commission regulations.
- Reviews land use development proposals to evaluate whether they follow environmental public health laws, regulations and/or principles.
- May work directly with applicants to provide regulatory guidance.
- Coordinates with other local and State resource agencies to identify and assess potential environmental impacts of proposed development.
- Meets with federal and municipal officials to review projects.
- Performs site visits and participate in public meetings.
- Assists other Lead program staff in the surveillance and control of zoonotic disease outbreaks.
- Organizes material and information for educational presentations.
- Develops processes and identifies resources to improve or enhance environmental health programs.
- Identifies, analyzes and secures correction of out of compliance situations in accordance with Division's policies.

We are looking for a candidate that will:
- Have a general understanding of laws, regulations, principles, procedures, and techniques relating to air quality and other environmental public health programs, including water and on-site wastewater treatment systems; zoonotic diseases; food safety and disaster response.
- Be organized and able to manage multiple responsibilities efficiently while being flexible and working well with others.
- Communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other County employees, representatives of other agencies and organizations, and members of the community.
- Perform complex duties independently without close supervision.
- Understand laws, rules and regulations, ordinances and the technical aspects of operations covered in the programs they are assigned to work in.
- Effectively train and mentor co-workers and staff.
- Operates environmental health equipment including sampling, inspection equipment and inspection software.
Qualifications
All candidates will be screened for the following required minimum qualifications. Any candidate who does not meet all of the qualifications listed as required will be eliminated from the process.
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Environmental Health, or a related field, with a minimum of one 3-credit hour course in microbiology required. Related education or experience may be substituted on a year for year basis.
- Two (2) years of experience in a directly related field or in the performance of similar duties and responsibilities, required.
- Possession of a valid Driver's License by date of hire require.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) skills preferred.
